WHY YOUR JEEP'S POWER STEERING IS FAILING

Every Jeep model has signature power steering weak points. After 15 years and thousands of steering repairs, we know exactly what fails on Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, Compass, and Renegade.

    🔩

    Power Steering Pump Failure

Whining noise when turning, heavy steering, intermittent assist. Pump bearings or internal vanes wear out. Common on Wrangler JK/JL and Grand Cherokee after 100k km.

    Power Steering Rack Leak

Fluid dripping from rack boots – internal seal failure. Low fluid leads to pump damage. Common on unibody Jeeps.

    High Pressure Hose Leak

Cracked or worn hose – fluid sprays on engine, burning smell, low fluid. Common at crimped fittings.

    The Difference

Why Drivers Choose Us for Power Steering Work

    01

    Hydraulic & Electric PS Expertise

Older Jeeps (most Wrangler JK, older Grand Cherokee, older Cherokee) use hydraulic power steering — pump, hoses, fluid. Newer Compass, Renegade, Cherokee KL, some Wrangler JL use electric power steering with module-controlled assist. We diagnose and repair both — most UAE workshops only do hydraulic.

    02

    OEM Mopar Pumps Only

Cheap aftermarket power steering pumps fail within 12–18 months in UAE heat — we’ve seen it dozens of times. We use only genuine Mopar OEM pumps with new pulleys and o-rings. They last 8+ years even in 50°C summer conditions. Long-term it’s far cheaper.

    03

    Proper Bleed Procedure

After any hydraulic power steering repair, the system must be properly bled to remove air pockets. Skipping or rushing the bleed causes whining noise and reduced steering assist that returns within weeks. We follow Mopar’s bleed procedure exactly — every time.

    04

    Genuine Mopar ATF+4 Fluid

Most Jeeps use Mopar ATF+4 in the power steering system — not generic “power steering fluid.” Wrong fluid causes pump seal failure within months. We carry genuine Mopar ATF+4 in stock and never substitute. This detail matters more than people realise.

    05

    12-Month Steering Warranty

All steering repairs covered 12 months / 20,000 km in writing. Recurring wobble, leaks or play related to our work — fixed free of charge.

    ★★★★★

“My Wrangler started whining badly when turning at low speed — getting worse every week. They diagnosed a slow leak in the high-pressure hose, replaced with OEM hose, flushed and refilled with genuine Mopar ATF+4. Quiet, smooth, no more leak. Far less than the dealer quote.”

    ★★★★★

“My Cherokee KL had hard electric steering — dealer wanted thousands for “EPS module replacement.” TorqueHaus did a proper wiTECH scan, found it was actually a torque sensor calibration issue. Tiny fraction of the cost. They saved me from a huge unnecessary expense.”

      Common Questions

      Jeep Power Steering REPAIR FAQ

It depends entirely on what’s actually wrong — pump replacement, hose repair, fluid flush, rack replacement, and EPS module work all have very different price points. The wiTECH 2 diagnostic is always FREE, and we provide a written quote before any work begins. Typically our pricing is 40–50% lower than authorised dealer pricing for the identical work and parts.

Most common causes: low fluid level (often due to a slow leak), degraded ATF+4 fluid (UAE heat breaks it down), failing pump bearings or vanes, restricted high-pressure hose, or air in the system from a previous improper repair. The whining always indicates a real fault — it doesn’t fix itself. Free diagnostic identifies the exact cause.

Hard steering when cold typically points to: low or degraded power steering fluid, weak pump output, restricted hose, partially seized steering rack, or on newer Jeeps an EPS torque sensor or module issue. We diagnose hydraulic and electric power steering — most UAE shops only handle hydraulic systems.

Most Jeeps use Mopar ATF+4 in the power steering system — not the generic “power steering fluid” sold at most parts shops. ATF+4 has specific additives that protect the pump and seals. Using the wrong fluid causes pump seal failure within months. We always use genuine Mopar ATF+4. Check your owner’s manual for confirmation.

Power steering fluid flush: 1 hour same-day. High-pressure hose replacement: 2–3 hours same-day. Power steering pump replacement: 3–4 hours same-day. Steering rack replacement (includes alignment): 5–6 hours same-day. EPS module / sensor work: 2–4 hours depending on diagnosis.

Dealers often quote replacing the most expensive components (full rack, full EPS module) by default — without deeper diagnosis. In reality, many power steering issues are sensor / hose / fluid problems at a fraction of the cost. We invest the diagnostic time to identify the actual failed component — which is why our quotes are typically half the dealer’s.
