WHY YOUR PENTASTAR NEEDS SPECIALIST ATTENTION
The Pentastar 3.6L V6 is a great engine with known weak points. After 15 years and 1,500+ Pentastar repairs, we know exactly what fails – and the permanent fix for each.
Rocker Arm & Roller Failure (Most Common)
Ticking noise from top of engine – worn roller bearings. Left unchecked, camshaft lobes can be damaged. Common on Wrangler JK/JL and Grand Cherokee.
Replace with Updated Parts
Oil Cooler / Filter Housing Leak
Plastic housing cracks – oil pools in valley between cylinder banks, drips down back of engine. Looks like rear main seal leak but isn’t.
Replace with Aluminum Upgrade
Cylinder Head Failure
Valve seat recession, misfire codes (P0300-P0306), rough idle. Known issue on earlier Pentastars (2011-2013). Later heads redesigned.
Major Repair
Timing Chain Stretch / Tensioner Wear
Rattling noise on cold start, especially around 150k km. Chains stretch, tensioners bleed down. Can cause cam/crank correlation codes.
Replace Chains & Guides
Camshaft Follower (Lifter) Tick
Distinctive ticking that speeds up with RPM – worn hydraulic lash adjuster or roller. Often misdiagnosed as exhaust leak.
Replace Followers
Exhaust Manifold Crack (Driver Side)
Ticking noise that goes away as engine warms up – common on Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. Thin casting cracks near collector.
Replace Manifold
Oil Pressure Switch / Sensor Failure
Faulty sensor gives false low pressure warnings – can trigger limp mode. Cheap part, easy fix.
Quick Fix
Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Solenoid Failure
Rough idle, poor acceleration, check engine light (P0010-P0029). Solenoids clog with sludge.
Replace Solenoids

Why Pentastar Owners Choose Our Specialist Workshop
Pentastar 3.6L Specialists
Our master technicians have rebuilt over 500 Pentastar engines. We know every weak point — rocker arms, oil coolers, valve seats, timing chains, head cracks — and the correct factory fix for each. We don’t learn on your car.
Genuine Mopar Internals
Mopar rocker arms, Mopar lifters, Mopar gaskets, ARP fasteners. The Pentastar has been killed by cheap aftermarket parts too many times. We refuse to use them — your rebuilt engine lasts properly.
Updated Parts on Older Engines
For 2011–2013 Pentastars with cracked heads, we fit the updated post-2014 head castings that fix the original defect. For the plastic oil cooler, we fit the updated aluminium replacement. Mopar TSBs followed exactly — done right.
Honest Repair-vs-Rebuild Advice
A single failed rocker arm does not need a full rebuild. We give you transparent options — repair only, top-end refresh, or full rebuild — and let you decide based on mileage and budget. No upsell to a rebuild you don’t need.
Full Repair Guarantee
Every Jeep repair is backed by a 12-month / 20,000km parts and labour warranty.

Jeep Brake REPAIR FAQ
What is the common Pentastar 3.6L tick?
The Pentastar tick is caused by rocker arm and lifter failure, usually around 80,000–120,000 km. The fault typically affects one cylinder head first (left or right). If caught early, we replace rockers and lifters. If valves are already damaged, the cylinder head needs replacement with updated Mopar parts.
Does my Pentastar oil cooler need replacing?
If your Pentastar is over 80,000 km and you see oil leaking around the front of the engine, yes. The original plastic oil cooler housing fails on virtually every Pentastar eventually. We replace with the updated aluminium Mopar part — done once, lasts the engine’s lifetime.
Are 2011–2013 Pentastar cylinder heads really cracked?
Yes — early Pentastar heads (2011 to mid-2013) had a casting defect that causes left-bank cylinder head cracks. Mopar issued updated castings in late 2013. If your Pentastar has misfire codes (P0300, P0301) on the left bank with no obvious cause, head replacement with updated castings is likely the fix.
How much does Pentastar repair cost?
Rocker arm replacement (one head) from AED 3,500. Oil cooler replacement from AED 1,800. Cylinder head replacement from AED 4,800. Timing chain service from AED 3,200. Full Pentastar rebuild from AED 12,000. All include genuine Mopar parts and 12-month warranty.
How long does Pentastar repair take?
Oil cooler replacement: 1 day. Rocker arm / head work: 3–5 days. Timing chain: 2–3 days. Full rebuild: 7–14 days. Precise timeline provided after diagnostic — we never overpromise.
Do you use genuine Mopar Pentastar parts?
Yes — Mopar OEM rocker arms, lifters, cylinder heads (updated castings on early engines), gaskets, ARP fasteners. We never use aftermarket internals on a Pentastar — too many premature failures from cheap parts. Genuine OEM is the only safe option.
Rocker arm tick, oil cooler leak, cracked head — we’ve fixed all of it, hundreds of times. Book a free Pentastar diagnostic today.
